TL;DR

In our opinion, a minibus is the most convenient way to get from Vanadzor to Tbilisi.

When we were in northern Armenia, we were confronted with the question of how to get from Armenia to Georgia. There are two options. We chose the minibus.

How to Get from Northern Armenia to Georgia

1. The Night Train from Vanadzor to Tbilisi

This is the option everybody talks about. But

  • It only leaves every other day in winter.
  • It leaves in the middle of the night – you probably won’t get much (if any) sleep.
  • It takes around 6 hours.
  • You can only buy tickets on the website of the Armenian railway or at the train station.
  • It costs at least 24$.

2. The Minibus from Vanadzor to Tbilisi

The minibus from Hayreniq Tour is much more convenient but much less talked about. Honesty, we were a bit sceptical before booking this option because we hardly found any information online.

We can report that it left extremely punctual at the Holy Mother of God Church in Vanadzor and everything went super smooth (maybe double check their pick-up location with them as there was some confusion).

The minibus has several advantages:

  • It leaves every day.
  • It leaves at 11 a.m. so you can get a good night of sleep.
  • It only takes around 3.5 hours.
  • You can easily buy tickets online.
  • It only costs around 17$.
