Famagusta Tour from Ayia Napa

When booking a Famagusta trip, make sure that you will actually enter the ghost town. Not all Famagusta tours will, but of course, our two picks do 😉

Varosha used to be a famous holiday resort in the 1970s. It became abandoned in 1974. Homes, hotels, shops, and bars remain empty since then.

1. Ghost Town Famagusta Tour

Rating: 4.7 / 5 (551 reviews)

Likely to sell out

Why choose this tour? The Ghost-Town Famagusta Tour provides you with an in-depth view of the Ghost Town of Famagusta. Get a close-up view of the deserted hotels that line the coast before you stroll the streets of the ghost town to see the abandoned hotels, homes, and shops.

Next, circle the moat of the old Gothic city with the castle walls towering over you.

Explore Famagusta walled city where 356 churches and cathedrals once stood. You’ll see the Venetian Walls, Othelo's Castle, and St George Cathedral.

Including:

  • Pickup and drop-off at your Ayia Napa hotel.
  • Driver/guide.
  • Free time.

Important information:

  • To visit Famagusta, you need to cross the border. A passport or European ID is required for this trip!

Because we travelled out of season we found it very difficult to access tours locally. I had used Get Your Guide previously so decided to look on their website and found just what we were looking for. We had a shared minibus with just one other couple; the itinerary was exactly as described and our driver Chris was friendly, efficient and informative. We were picked up and dropped off at the front door of our hotel so couldn’t have been more convenient. Really couldn’t fault it.

What I also liked about this trip is that there is a running commentary given by the guide pretty much for the entire trip so you're always learning about the country or locations that you're passing through.
