You'll have plenty of time to relax on the beach, encounter incredible wildlife, amd experience Oaxaca's unique culture as well as Puerto Escondido's famous nightlife.

Day 1 – Relax at the Beach & Baby Turtle Release
Morning – Surf or Relax at the Beach
The best way to ease into your Puerto Escondido itinerary is by embracing the town's laid-back beach vibe. Unlike many beach destinations in Mexico, Puerto Escondido isn't just about lying on the sand all day – it's a surfer's paradise famous for some of the world's biggest waves.
We recommend spending your first morning heading to Playa Zicatela, the town's most iconic (surfer) beach. Even if you don't surf yourself, watching experienced surfers tackle the legendary Mexican Pipeline is an attraction in itself. The beach is lined with cafés and restaurants, making it the perfect place to enjoy a leisurely breakfast or coffee with an ocean view.
If you're looking for a swim instead, head to Playa Carrizalillo or Playa Manzanillo, where the waves are much calmer. Zicatela's strong currents make it unsuitable for swimming most of the year, so it's best enjoyed from the shore.
Afternoon – Baby Turtle Release
One of the most memorable experiences in Puerto Escondido is taking part in a baby turtle release. Every evening, conservation organisations release newly hatched sea turtles into the Pacific Ocean, giving them the best possible chance of reaching the sea safely.
Watching dozens of tiny turtles make their first journey across the sand is a surprisingly emotional experience and one that's suitable for all ages. While survival rates in the wild are naturally low, these conservation projects help protect nests from predators and human disturbance before releasing the hatchlings.

Afternoon – Bioluminescent Lagoon
As the sun begins to set, make your way to Laguna Manialtepec for one of Puerto Escondido's most magical experiences.

Puerto Escondido transforms after sunset. Especially in La Punta or Zicatela, you'll find lively bars, beachfront restaurants, live music, and plenty of backpackers swapping travel stories long into the night.
Our favourite area was La Punta, where the atmosphere feels relaxed and social without being overly hectic. If you're looking for a bigger party, head towards Zicatela, where beach clubs and bars stay busy until the early hours.
However you choose to spend your final evening, grabbing a cocktail while watching the sunset over the Pacific is the perfect way to wrap up your three days in Puerto Escondido.
